Die Ausstellung ,,Ein Land ohne Volk für ein Volk ohne Land" ist aus
unterschiedlich großformatigen Postern mit Konturzeichnungen in Schwarz/
Weiß zusammengesetzt, die die Besucher dazu einladen, mit verschiedenen zur
Verfügung stehenden Buntstiften Farbe in die Zeichnungen zu bringen. Erneut
erforscht Nuno Coelho mit seiner Arbeit Begriffe wie die Zugehörigkeit und
die Interaktivität mit dem Publikum anhand von verschiedenen, gedruckten
Ausstellungsmaterialien.

Die Poster zeigen unterschiedliche Karten und Grafiken, aber auch
Zeichnungen, die aus Bildern entstanden sind, die er während einer
einmonatigen Reise durch die Region Palästina im Jahr 2006 gemacht hat. Bei
diesem Aufenthalt erhielt er einen näheren Einblick in die komplexe
Situation dieser Region.
Mit dieser künstlerischen Arbeit wandelt Nuno Coelho die sozialen und
alltäglichen Spannungen einer Region, in der drei Kontinente aufeinander
treffen, in Erzählungen um. Der Künstler versucht dabei, sowohl eine neue
Sichtweise über den Nahostkonflikt, als auch einen kritischen und
gleichzeitig ironischen Blick darzustellen, der dazu dienen kann, die
Sinnlosigkeit der heutigen Lage in dieser Region aufzuzeigen.

Indem er die gegenwärtige soziale und politische Lage anhand einer
Kindersprache und Kinderaktivitäten behandelt, wird auf die Sinnlosigkeit
mit Nachdruck hingewiesen. Die Arbeit spiegelt die Ansicht des Künstlers
wider, dass, obwohl allgemein viel über Palästina geredet wird, nur wenige
Menschen die Hintergründe der Bilder und der schockierenden Schlagzeilen,
die die Medien erzeugen, verstehen und die Grundlagen des Konfliktes
erfassen können.

Weiterhin ist es wichtig zu hinterfragen, ob eine Kunstaktion eine große
politische Bedeutung beinhalten kann, ohne eine bestimmte Meinung zu
vertreten und ohne dass der Künstler dabei als Revoluzzer oder Aktivist
auftritt. So wie die Verneinung der Philosophie bereits eine philosophische
Fragestellung ist, wäre der Versuch, ein apolitisches Werk zu zeigen, selbst
eine politische Äußerung.

Ein Katalog mit den Postern der Ausstellung ist in Form eines Malbuchs mit
Buntstiften erhältlich. Die Auflage ist limitiert, nummeriert und vom
Künstler handsigniert.

Nuno Coelho ist Kommunikationsdesigner. Er wohnt und arbeitet in Porto,
Portugal.

The exhibition "A Land Without People for a People Without Land" is
comprised of large format porters, each with a black and white outline
illustration, which visitors are invited to colour using the coloured
pencils provided. Once again, Nuno Coelho is exploring the familiar concepts
of his work such as the use of vernacular cultural reference and viewer
interaction through print media. The posters display various maps and
graphics, and also include material directly taken from photographs
collected by the artist during a month long trip to Palestine in 2006,
during which he had the opportunity to explore and research the complex
situation in the region.

In this exhibition, Nuno Coelho produces a visual discourse around the
social tensions of daily life in this region where three continents collide,
and proposes a new approach to exploring the Arab-Israeli conflict. This
discourse is critical, but it is also ironic, and playfully exposes the
absurdity in the current situation. This concept of the absurd is emphasized
by the appropriation of infantile language and iconography, used to
illustrate the reality of the current sociopolitical situation. The work
demonstrates the opinion of the artist that although there is a global
discourse surrounding Palestine, few people can reach beyond shock images
and headlines engineered by the Media and understand the basic principles of
the conflict.

The work also invites us to question whether it is possible for an artwork
to have immense political focus without becoming one-sided, or attempting to
be transgressive, subversive or an act of political activism. Arguably,
denying philosophy is in itself a philosophical act, and so perhaps even
attempting to create artwork that avoids dealing directly with politics is
intrinsically to take a definite political position.

An exhibition catalogue is available, comprised of miniature prints of each
of the posters featured in the exhibition. Each edition is accompanied by a
box of coloured pencils. Catalogues will be limited edition, each one
numbered and signed by the artist.

Nuno Coelho is a communication Designer, who lives and works in Porto. "A
Land Without People for a People Without Land" is the first individual
exhibition by the artist with work created specifically for this exhibition.

A exposição "Uma Terra Sem Gente, Para Gente Sem Terra" é composta por
diversos posters de grande formato, com desenhos de contorno a
preto-e-branco, que convidam os visitantes a preencher de cor usando os
diversos lápis dispostos para o efeito. Uma vez mais, Nuno Coelho explora no
seu trabalho conceitos como o vernáculo e a interactividade do público com
diversos materiais impressos. Os posters mostram diversos mapas e gráficos,
assim como desenhos realizados a partir de fotografias recolhidas na sua
viagem de um mês à Palestina em 2006 onde teve um contacto íntimo com a
complexa situação da região.

Com esta intervenção artística, Nuno Coelho traduz em narrativas as tensões
sociais que fazem parte do quotidiano daquela região onde três continentes
colidem, propondo uma nova abordagem de pensamento sobre o conflito
israelo-árabe, assim como um olhar crítico mas também irónico, que poderá
mostrar o absurdo da situação presente.

Essa sensação de absurdo é enfatizada ao falar da actual situação social e
política recorrendo a um imaginário e uma linguagem infantil. O trabalho vai
ao encontro da opinião do autor que crê que apesar de haver um discurso
global sobre a Palestina, poucas pessoas conseguem ver além das imagens e
títulos chocantes gerados pelos media e compreender os princípios básicos do
conflito.

Para além disso torna-se importante questionar se poderá um acto artístico
conter em si imenso significado político sem assumir um determinado ponto de
vista ou sem aspirar a ser transgressor, subversivo ou activista. Tal como a
negação da Filosofia é já de si um acto filosófico, talvez a tentativa de
mostrar um trabalho apolítico seja também ela detentora de uma forte posição
política.

Um catálogo da exposição encontra-se disponível, onde todos os desenhos dos
posters que compõem a exposição encontram-se compilados num livro para
colorir acompanhado por uma caixa de lápis. A edição é limitada, numerada e
assinada pelo autor.

Nuno Coelho é Designer de Comunicação, actualmente a viver e a trabalhar na
cidade do Porto. "Uma Terra Sem Gente, Para Gente Sem Terra" é a sua
primeira exposição individual com trabalho criado propositadamente para o
efeito.
